JT Petty’s Faces of Death remake shooting soon?

While JT Petty finishes up his latest film in Hellbenders, Bleeding Cool has learned that his once-proposed remake of the controversial mockumentary Faces of Death is gearing up to finally shoot later this year. Hellbenders is aiming for a 2012 release, so while this is still a rumor-ish scoop, one could imagine a late 2012, early 2013 release for Faces of Death.

Petty once described his remake like this: “I shouldn’t say too much yet, but it’s going to be a narrative film, very hard, very strange. I think the property is actually a great canvas for a very frightening film, not just splatter.”

No official word yet on plot, or if his vision will be like the mockumentary style of the original classic, but even with the slew of sequels and copycats, there’s been little to no narrative in these films. Petty’s wowed horror fans before in Soft for Digging, The Burrowers, and yet can he bring something new to this? With Hellbenders pending, there’s no word if his rumored Haunted Temple will be pushed back.

  1. My friends and I used to argue about whether Faces of Death was real or not. Some of it certainly seemed real, but most of it looked staged. Either way, is there room for a remake when there’s stuff like “1000 Ways To Die” on TV?
