Jason Statham vs. Robert De Niro in Killer Elite

Open Road Films has set a date for their first release as a studio and the latest Jason Statham-actioner called Killer Elite. The film also co-stars Robert De Niro and Clive Owen and will be release September 23rd, which forces it to compete against Abduction and Soderbergh’s Moneyball.

Here’s the film’s plot: “The fact-based thriller is about an ex-special ops agent (Statham) lured out of retirement to rescue his mentor (De Niro). To do it, he must lay waste to three assassins with a cunning leader (Owen).”

The film is based on an apparent non-fiction book from Ranulph Fiennes, called The Feather Men. There’s been some controversy as to what really happened. To me, Statham has clearly picked up the torch of that long-lost action hero, with recent ass-kickers in The Mechanic and The Expendables, yet alone his past films. Is this something you’d see while waiting for The Expendables 2?
