Ivan Reitman says everything about Ghostbusters 3 is “wrong”
It looks as if progress on Ghostbusters 3 isn’t as far along as we’ve originally thought. The film has been in the works since Ghostbusters 2, and it was thought the idea of another Ghostbusters was dead, but that soon changed in 2007 when it was revealed to be alive. We’ve been that progress was actually being made this past few months with Bill Murray reportedly signed on (here), and even some details on the film’s plot (here). However, it seems all that is wrong.
Cinema Blend sat down with director Ivan Reitman about the film, and revealed what many probably have already guessed. “Virtually everything you’ve read on the internet [about Ghostbusters III] is not accurate,” he said. That’s not to say the film isn’t going to happen, but that it hasn’t progressed as much as we thought. Reitman does confirm the film is scheduled to begin production in May, but they still need to cast more actors. Although, they “have some actors who seem to be interested in doing it, a ton of interest in the film”, Reitman said. He also reveals the script by Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg (The Office) was only completed almost a month ago, but was approved. They’re now waiting to see if Bill Murray approves.
So, it seems that we’re back to square one. Given Murray’s previous comments about Stupnitsky and Eisenberg’s work on Year One, the two writers will need to come up with something great to persuade Murray into doing the film. After all, Dan Aykroyd even said they would only make the film if all the original members signed on (here).
