Guillermo Del Toro is now directing Pacific Rim (Updated)
Guillermo Del Toro may be a fantastic director, but he’s been having a hard time getting his next film out. He was originally set to direct The Hobbit, but had to drop out due to the pro-longed delay the films suffered because of MGM’s financial issues. He was all set to direct a feature adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s At The Mountains of Madness, but that film fell apart (here). However, Deadline Hollywood interviewed the Director, and was able to confirm reports that he would be tackling Legendary Pictures’ Pacific Rim (here).
“I can only say I was very happy to be able to develop it under the radar in many ways. People got it confused with the Godzilla movie a few months ago but we cleared that up. I can say the scope and imagination that have been outlined in it are absolutely appealing to me. I cannot say more, it’s not the time,” Del Toro said about the project. One thing Del Toro mentions is how anxious he is to return behind the camera after soo long. “I miss it terribly. Unfortunately for me, I have passed discreetly on a number of high profile projects last year in order to save myself for a project that I’ve been shepherding,” he said. The plan is to begin production in September, so we should be hearing a lot more on Pacific Rim soon enough.
Update: Legendary Pictures just issued an official announcement (via Coming Soon), and have slated the film for release in the Summer of 2013.
