Green Lantern 2 “set in stone”

Despite the riskiness of Martin Campbell’s Green Lantern, a sequel is already in development at WB. We’ve already been hearing rumors the script for the sequel was turned in a few months ago (here) and is target for a release in 2013 (here), and Actor Ryan Reynolds now mentions that we should know where Green Lantern 2 would go after the film. “I already know where that story’s going to go and I think when people see the movie they’re going to know as well. So if we’re all lucky enough to be a part of [a sequel] that would be great, but yeah, the story’s set in stone pretty much where it’s gotta go,” he said at WonderCon (via The Playlist).

It’s any one’s guess as to where the sequel could go, but Reynolds has mentioned the possibility of introducing other Lanterns such as John Stewart in the sequel, and Actress Blake Lively (Carol Ferris in the film) has expressed interest in portraying Star Sapphire (here). However, the most likely case is this film will set up Sinestro (Mark Strong in the film) as the sequel’s villain. Of course, this doesn’t mean a sequel will happen, and that all depends on how the film performs at the box-office. But given the recent footage shown at WonderCon (here and here), the film is shaping up to be what fans have been waiting for.

Green Lantern opens on June 17th.
