Duh, Spider-Man won’t show up in The Avengers

Rumor has apparently been going around that Spider-Man would be showing up in Joss Whedon’s The Avengers next year, but Executive Producer Avi Arad debunked that odd rumor to the Toronto Sun. “No. I think obviously in the comics, the team-ups and mix-ups have kept publishing going for many years. But Spider-Man has a huge universe of its own, so many villains, foes and friends. It’s not something we’re thinking about because we have so much more to tell,” he said. Rather obvious as Sony owns the rights to the Spider-Man franchise, not Marvel. That would make a team-up impossible.

Of course, fans are hoping that Marvel would get the rights to the property back, and would allow for that to happen. However, Sony knows they have a hot property on their hands, and aren’t likely to give it up easily. Until then, the only time we’ll be seeing Spider-Man team-up with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will be in the comics.
