Did Bill Murray turn down Ghostbusters 3?
While Dan Aykroyd has been pushing for a Ghostbusters 3, Sony was waiting on Bill Murray’s approval for the film to move forward. They’ve been (impatiently) waiting on Murray to give an answer, and it seems he’s finallly given it. Sources told the National Enquirer that Murray not only read the most recent draft of the script, but mailed the script back to Aykroyd shredded with a note saying: “No one wants to pay money to see fat, old men chasing ghosts!”
No word on how truthful this is, but Aykroyd has once called Murray’s lack of response to be “acting like a jerk”, and this would fall in line with that. Their source also claims that development on the film would move forward without him. Once again this is just a rumor for right now, and we should hear something about the film should this turn out to be true. However, it would go against Sony’s claims to not make the film unless Murray is involved.
