Del Toro may direct Pacific Rim next

It was reported just a couple of hours ago that Guillermo Del Toro’s At The Mountains of Madness has been green-lit with Tom Cruise set to star (here), but it seems that is not the true at all. In fact, Deadline Hollywood is reporting the film isn’t green-lit, and that Del Toro could be making another film instead. Remember last October when it was rumored that Del Toro would be taking on Legendary Picture’s Godzilla reboot and that the film would be merging it’s script with another film called Pacific Rim (here)?  Well, that could in fact be his next movie instead of At The Mountains of Madness.

Legendary Pictures is fast-tracking Pacific Rim, and the length of time it’s taking to get a green-light for At The Mountains of Madness is taking too long. Pacific Rim is a project scripted by Travis Beacham, and features “big monsters and the creation of a new world”. The saddest part is that Del Toro has just gone through this same issue when tackling The Hobbit, but was delayed after MGM’s financial issues arose. Pacific Rim is looking like the most likely choice as it’s a PG-13 script, and one of the reasons it’s taking soo long for WB to get At The Mountains of Madness green-lit is because of the rating and budget. If Del Toro does end up choosing Pacific Rim, it’s said he would try and make At The Mountains of Madness afterwards.
