David R. Ellis to remake Kite

Adapting live-action anime seems to be one of the many trends in Hollywood these days, and it shouldn’t be surprising to hear that a remake of the controversial anime film Kite has also been in the works. Rob Cohen has rumored to be attached to the film, but Variety is reporting that David R. Ellis (Shark Night 3D) is now attached to direct. Not only that, but it seems that a cast is already attached to the film, and is looking to begin shooting next January.

For those unfamiliar with the anime film, Kite centered “on a schoolgirl named Sawa, who is orphaned as a teenager when her parents are the victims of a brutal double murder. Two detectives, Akai and Kanie, take on the case and take Sawa under their care. Then one of them makes her his sex slave. Then she turns into an assassin. And it gets even crazier from there.” This adaptation will be dropping the sex slave angle, and it shouldn’t be any surprise. But Shark Night 3D seemed to show that Ellis can give us graphic content in a film, and still have a PG-13 rating.
