Danny Elfman to score Frankenweenie, duh!

No surprise, but their collaborations are always something worth paying attention to, as composer Danny Elfman and Tim Burton will work again on his upcoming feature film version of the now classic (-ish) short film in Frankenweenie.

Based on his 1984 short, this version will be stop-motion animated in the vein of A Nightmare Before Christmas or Corpse Bride.

A heartwarming tale about a boy and his dog. After unexpectedly losing his beloved dog Sparky, young Victor harnesses the power of science to bring his best friend back to life — with just a few minor adjustments. He tries to hide his home-sewn creation, but when Sparky gets out, Victor’s fellow students, teachers and the entire town all learn that getting a new “leash on life” can be monstrous.

A stop-motion animated film, Frankenweenie will be filmed in black and white and rendered in 3D, which will elevate the classic style to a whole new experience.

Frankenweenie is set for a release in Digital 3D on October 5, 2012 by Walt Disney Pictures. Even if it’s half as good as the short, it should be pretty cute and special.
