Alex Aja to direct the Pet Sematary remake
Perhaps Marcus Nispel (Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the 13th remakes) has some competition in the throne for the King of the Remakes, as Alex Aja is eyeing his fourth remake (after Hills Have Eyes, Mirrors and Piranha 3D) in Pet Sematary from Paramount for 2013. The book from Stephen King, was adapted by Mary Lambert in 1989 and was followed by a sequel.
Although Aja is keen on directing Cobra: The Space Pirate, an original project, it’s having a hard time getting money (naturally), so this project could fill the void.
In case you forgot about the book/film’s plot: “When the Creeds move into a beautiful old house in rural Maine, it all seems too good to be true: physician father, beautiful wife, charming little daughter, adorable infant son — and now an idyllic home. As a family, they’ve got it all…right down to the friendly cat.
But the nearby woods hide a blood-chilling truth — more terrifying than death itself…and hideously more powerful.”

I really dig Aja’s stuff but c’mon, please do SOMETHING original. HILLS HAVE EYES, MIRRORS and PIRANHA 3D were remakes, and HIGH TENSION was a complete ripoff of Dean Koontz’s INTENSITY — so much that they went back and shot that hideous ending.
